Icing Smiles is Baking a Difference, but we need your help to deliver smiles to incredible kids like Isaiah. Our amazing Sugar Angels donate the cakes we serve, but we still have operational expenses. It costs Icing Smiles approximately $35 to deliver each cake. It’s a gift that’s worth so much more! To a family like Isaiah’s, it’s so much more than cake!

Isaiah was born with Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) which means he has fragile bones. So fragile that he was born with about 15 fractures! Both of his femurs, his tibia and fibula in one leg, his right humerus and a number of ribs were all freshly broken. At 1 month old, 4 ribs were broken simply by handling him to change his diaper, and at 6 months old he broke his left humerus trying to hold himself up.

Isaiah’s parents were told they should terminate the pregnancy before Isaiah was born. His mom Vicky says, “We were told by some that Isaiah wouldn’t even be able to cry, that when he’d go to take a deep breath, his expanding lungs could break all of his ribs. But that was wrong. He did cry. His cry was loud and it was beautiful.”

Isaiah has OI Type III which is one of the most severe forms you can live with so the road has not been easy and will continue to be a difficult one. But Vicky wants others to know that “miracles do happen and OI is no show-stopper.”

At 16 month, Isaiah was was also diagnosed with Hydrocephalus which is a build up of fluid inside the brain. Two months later he had surgery to place a VP shunt to drain the fluid. He has made great progress since that shunt was placed.

Vicky says, “He has this big, amazing spirit. Isaiah is a strong, amazingly brave and fantastic little guy. Having OI and Hydrocephalus doesn’t stop him from living a beautiful life.”

When it was time for Isaiah’s Little Blue Truck themed 2nd birthday party, Vicky contacted Icing Smiles. We found the perfect baker! Sugar Angel Nikki Arsenberger Fanus of Ruby Red Bake Shop created this adorable cake for Isaiah! “We love Icing Smiles and everything you’ve done for us and so many others! Icing Smiles helped make Isaiah’s birthday extra special, and we’ve been so grateful for everything you’ve done for Isaiah. He absolutely loved his Little Blue Truck birthday cake!”

Isaiah also received cookies through our Cookie Club program after an extra tough treatment time. What an amazing Icing Smiles this little guy has! His beautiful smile through adversity is worth continuing our mission well into the future!
