Sugar Angels and Superheroes

Nielsen-Massey Buttercream Ball – Baltimore 2019

Celebrating Smiles is what we do every day through the dedication and love of our amazing Sugar Angels! On March 2nd it was time to celebrate Icing Smiles and another year of creating memories with the 8th annual Icing Smiles Buttercream Ball in downtown Baltimore. It was an evening of fun for everyone from the many families, friends, and Sugar Angels who attended. Our guests of honor, three families whose children have received Smiles, teamed up with three Sugar Angels who helped them compete in our Showpiece Showdown with A Night at the Chocolate Factory!

David and Luke

Our first team, David Geaney and Luke Rodell, created a fantastic piece featuring Umpa-Lumpas and the Blueberry Girl! David has volunteered with Icing Smiles since 2012 and Luke has received several cakes from us with his first in 2011 with a Super Mario theme made by our founder Tracy Quisenberry! Luke is in 9th grade and enjoys playing music, running, and is a member of the Boy Scouts.

Jonathan and Dorian

Jonathan Duncan and Dorian Solimano competed as our second dynamic duo. Jonathan is currently active duty with the United States Marine Corps and has volunteered with Icing Smiles since 2015 and had help from his son John who is a high school freshman. Dorian is not only in the Girl Scouts, runs, plays basketball, and sings – but loves to compete in pageants and is the current Miss New York Sweetheart!

Chelsea and Ella

Chelsea Boog and Ella Edwards won our competition with their candy-filled creation. Chelsea joined Icing Smiles in 2013 and not only creates beautiful cakes, but cookies and cakes pops which have been enjoyed at previous Buttercream Balls. Ella plays lacrosse and the cello and has been raising funds for pediatric oncology research and others through her lemonade stands.
