Every Minute Matters

Every Minute Matters

On January 11th, Mason was diagnosed with rare type of cancer known as Osteosarcoma and that was the day when everything changed. Even though the entire family was devastated by the unexpected results, they never let cancer take full control of their lives and fought courageously against it.

Shortly after Mason was diagnosed, the family’s schedule began to rapidly fill up with doctors visits. Countless doctor visits quickly developed into countless chemotherapy sessions and surgeries. As a result of the inconceivable physical change in their lifestyles, their perspectives also began to transform. Every minute of their lives began to matter much more and getting through the day became so much harder due to the prospect of everything shattering tomorrow.

In order to get through the day, the entire family found solace in the tiniest things. Mason found solace in numerous bacon slices and his mother found it by blogging about the family’s entire journey. Although Mason has, undoubtedly, gone through a lot for a boy as young as himself, he still manages to remain positive and his positivity is rather infectious. He is the one who constantly reminds his family of the things that really matter in life, proving that he is an incredibly powerful and brave boy.

Although the journey was unwelcome and unwanted, there are blessings that came with the journey and those blessings are what saved Mason and his family. As a result of this incredibly long and arduous journey, every member of the family has grown so much both mentally and physically. Mason’s mother, Amy, is able to finish Mason’s sentences and he is able to finish his mother’s sentences. This very relationship is a representation of all the battles they’ve gone through together and it’s because of the battles that they are able to understand each other so well.

Mason’s cake was donated by Sugar Angel Nellie Metcalf of Nellies Custom Cakes. Thank you Nellie for putting a big smile on Mason’s face. We appreciate all you do for Icing Smiles and look forward to seeing more “smiles” from you in the future.
