Meet Violet and her twin sister, the best hand holder ever!

Meet Violet and her twin sister, the best hand holder ever!

After an accidental run-in with a chair, Violet Rice began limping. Her limp lasted longer than her mom Jenny was comfortable with. So like any concerned mom, Jenny took Violet to the doctor to have a x-ray. They found that Violet had a tumor in her femur, and Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis.

LCH is a disorder in which excess immune system cells called Langerhans cells build up in the body. Langerhans cells regulate the immune system. After a year of chemo, Violet has been off treatment for two years and is now tumor free! Although it is possible that the tumor can return, There is hope that Violet will remain tumor free.

While Violet was undergoing chemo, she lost her dad, making this time even harder for her and the whole family.  Her twin sister, best friend, and best hand holder has remained ever by her side, holding her hand through chemo treatments, radiation therapy and the loss of their dad. These girls have been each other’s strength through it all.

To celebrate Violet’s tumor-free eighth birthday, Shannon Teague at Cake, Hope, and Love created a bright, fun, and colorful two-tiered “paint splattered” cake. This was Shannon’s 14th cake with Icing Smiles! Violet’s smile with her cake says it all. And reminds us why we do this with smiles!
