The Making of Sugar Angel Meghan

The Making of Sugar Angel Meghan

Meghan Taylor has always loved custom cakes. She used to order them from a bakery, until three years ago. They moved and Meghan realized she needed to find someone new to make her family’s cakes. When she couldn’t find what she was looking for, Meghan decided to try it herself.

Her first cake was for her son’s pre-k graduation. Since then, she’s never bought another cake! From that day on, Meghan started baking and decorating cakes for her family and friends. A year ago, she formed her small business, I’ll Cake That. Her business facebook page is here.

Meghan’s favorite thing in this world is children and she loves making them happy. When she heard of Icing Smiles, she just knew she had to apply. Making this cake for the Walters family was a great experience. Meghan says, “It feels good to give back, but it felt even better to see the reaction of him and his family!”

This cake was requested by the family of Griffin Walters, an adorable little boy who suffers from intractable epilepsy. He is non-verbal, so communication with him can be difficult; however, one thing they know for sure is his love of vacuums!

For his 10th birthday, they requested a cake in the shape of a vacuum and what they think is his favorite color, orange! Meghan says, “This was quite the challenge, but I came up with a design that featured all of the main components of a vacuum, including a real working light as a special surprise.” The light was placed under the fondant to dim the bulb a little and was on a motion sensor. When he walked up to the cake, the light came on! Griffin and his family were so happy with the cake and their appreciation meant the world to Meghan.

With Icing Smiles, stories like this happen every day! Interested in becoming a Sugar Angel like Meghan? Find out more information here: https://www.icingsmiles.org/us-volunteer-application/
