Hope for Jet

Hope for Jet

On February 1, 2020 Jet Britanabe and his parents celebrated his first birthday, despite fearing that he would never see it since before his birth. Jet had complications starting from the womb, so his parents were encouraged to terminate their pregnancy because doctors believed Jet would be stillborn. With great hope, Jet’s parents refused to terminate the pregnancy.

After refusing to terminate pregnancy, Azalee was given more bad news. The doctors at her local hospital would not be able to perform the heart surgery needed because of his chromosomal abnormalities. To find the specialty care that he needed, Azalee had to fly across the country at 35 weeks pregnant to a hospital where doctors could perform the surgery Jet needed. Azalee had a safe delivery and at just 11 days old, Jet had heart surgery. Jet also had three more surgeries before he turned one year old, spending the first eight and a half months in his life in the hospital.

In October of 2019, Jet finally came home and since then he has been thriving more and more every day, proving doctors wrong and amazing his family! Jet has a trach and a vent to help him breathe, but his parents do not let this stop them from living life to the fullest.

For Jet’s first birthday, Sugar Angel Lori Mahoney of Lori’s Custom Cakes created a space-themed cake that was out of this world. The cake was so amazing, mom Azalee was moved to tears and relieved that the stress of a birthday cake was not a burden for her family. They could enjoy this truly special celebration together!
