Zookeeper for a Day

Ellie was born in Ghana, West Africa, and has cerebral palsy. Her mom, Rebecca, knew the moment that she met her and saw Ellie’s special spark, she had to make her a part of her family.

Nothing slows Ellie down! She may need a walker, but she always takes off running every chance she gets! Being the powerhouse that she is, it’s no surprise that Ellie has big goals. She wants to meet Anna and Elsa in Disney World, dog sled in Alaska, and meet every penguin she possibly can. Those are only a few of her many dreams, but she and her mom are determined to make them all happen!

For Ellie’s 6th birthday, Rebecca knew she could make one dream come true. She enlisted the help of Icing Smiles baker, Wendy, to make her party a penguin paradise! However, this birthday cake couldn’t be just any penguin. It had to be Ellie’s favorite penguin: the Humboldt.

Wendy was up to the challenge and delivered a perfect Humboldt! She clearly did her research and created a near life-size Humboldt that was accurate right down to the markings. The cake looked perfect next to Ellie in her authentic zookeeper uniform! The treat was the best way to prepare for a trip to the zoo to see actual Humboldts in person.
