On This Giving Tuesday, We’re Remembering Amelie’s Birthday Celebration!

We’re sharing another great story of how our bakers give the gift of a special dream cake to critically ill children and their families to make their celebration dreams come true. As a nonprofit organization, Icing Smiles relies on donations from our supporters. Today is Giving Tuesday: a day when, nationwide, Americans donate to the charities and nonprofits they love and believe in. Learn more about donating to Icing Smiles here. Thank you as always for your support, large or small!

Life can be unpredictable. No one knows this better than Amelie and her family. Amelie was born with Glanzmann’s Thrombasthenia, a very rare genetic bleeding disorder. With this disorder, platelets in the blood do not bind to one another to clot properly, which leads to abnormal bleeding. For Amelie, this means that even the slightest nosebleed can send her to the hospital for up to a week.

While most days are uncertain, there was one that Amelie was looking forward to more than any. Last year, she was so excited for her birthday celebration, but unfortunately, she and her family were unable to celebrate her sixth birthday. On top of that, Amelie had to spend over a month in the hospital. Through all the tests and treatments, Amelie never lost her smile. She was able to face each day knowing that tomorrow can be better than the last.

There are, however, a few certainties in life for Amelie. One of those certainties is that Icing Smiles will always be there to help her celebrate a big day!

On her seventh birthday, Icing Smiles and Sugar Angel Amber came through with a beachy fun Lilo and Stitch cake!  Amber even joined in and invited the whole family to breakfast. One thing is for sure: Amelie and her family will never forget this birthday!
