Inspiration Close to Home from Roberta

Over the decade of smiles that we have shared, we have seen so many amazing cakes artfully crafted by our Sugar Angels with the greatest care. But what drives a baker to put their all into every cake? Well for Sugar Angel Roberta of Cakes by .45, that drive comes from knowing how much a cake can mean to someone on their special day. The perfect cake can make a celebration, so Roberta puts her heart and soul into every piece she creates.

Her Icing Smiles cakes, however, have another special meaning that hits close to home. She has seen firsthand what a family impacted by childhood illness goes through. Roberta’s daughter was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia when she was just three years old. All of the doctor’s visits, hectic schedules, and medical bills – her family has been through it all.

Having been in the shoes of the families she serves has shown her how much joy something as simple as a cake can bring to a family. So when she set out to make a Frozen cake for Scarlett last December, she knew she had to pull out all the stops. She took time and care to make sure every texture and color on the cake was just so to wow Scarlett and her family. To top off the celebration, she added some decorated treats to go alongside the cake. She delivered the cake with a smile knowing that she was able to give back to a family going through a tough time she knows all too well.

Icing Smiles is so thankful for all of our Sugar Angels just like Roberta. It’s thanks to these generous, kind, and talented individuals that we’ve been able to bake a difference for the last decade, and for many decades to come!
