Ringing in the new year with Super Hero Alexis

Ringing in the new year with Super Hero Alexis

Fifteen year old super hero Alexis Richardson was born micro premature, weighing only 17 ounces at birth. She was born with a seizure disorder. Due to early abuse and neglect, her seizure condition was untreated until she was placed with her forever family at the age of six. By the time she was placed with her forever family, she was having hundreds of seizures a day, resulting in lasting brain damage. Doctors have tried everything from different medications to several different surgeries to control the seizures but they continue to persist, causing even more severe brain damage.

Alexis also lives with Cerebral Palsy and Scoliosis. Cerebral Palsy is a group of disorders that affect movement and muscle tone or posture. It causes damage to the immature brain as it develops, most often before birth. Scoliosis is a sideways curvature of the spine, usually caused by a growth spurt and conditions like Cerebral Palsy. Alexis is also nonverbal and non-mobile. Alexis’ seizure disorder has caused respiratory damage, which has been worsening. She is receiving palliative care to ease the pain and symptoms she experiences every day.

Through it all, Alexis remains joyful and spreads her joy to everyone she encounters. With Alexis’ obvious health decline, her mother Rachel wanted to make sure that Alexis had a big celebration of her birthday and life. She did just that! To make Alexis’ celebration even more special, Sugar Angel Kimber created a one of kind, red white and blue, gold accented, star studded, two tiered super hero cake. Fit for a girl fighting through life with courage!
