Kaysan’s Re-Birthday
One of the most exciting times of the year for a child is their birthday. The thought of gifts, cake, birthday love and attention can send them into a frenzy! But after Icing Smiles cake recipient Kaysan was diagnosed with AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia), a type of cancer of the blood and bone marrow a couple of months before his 4th birthday, he did not get to celebrate his birthday like most children.
When Kaysan turned 4, he remained inpatient for six months receiving treatments and undergoing two failed bone marrow transplants. When these bone marrow transplants failed, Kaysan needed to receive cells from a matched donor all the way from Spain.
After the successful cell match on August 23, 2017, his family dubbed this day as Kaysan’s “Re-Birthday” to celebrate his missed birthday while being in the hospital. So, for Kaysan’s 1st Re-Birthday, Sugar Angel Najia created a rustic Childhood Cancer Awareness cake for him to enjoy. Not only did Kaysan enjoy it, but his family took his cake to his follow-up appointment to share with the doctors, nurses and staff who took such amazing care of him. This family made the wonderful effort to share their donated cake with the people that helped save Kaysan’s life! What an awesome act of kindness from both our Sugar Angel and the receiving family, and truly a reflection of our belief at Icing Smiles that “it is so much more than a cake”.
